History
Salus was a typical child of the military system. His father was a retired State alchemist, and his mother a retired military sniper. Salus and his brother Solomon were trained from a young age at a military academy in Central. The family life was quite typical, neither child wanted for anything, although their family was not considered wealthy, they were well off. During their time in the academy both of the brothers excelled. They were both ranked in the top two of their respected classes. Solomon graduated first 2nd in his class, a year later Salus graduated 1st in his class. This was the beginning of a rivalry between the two Fredrick boys. Solomon felt that whatever he did, Salus was better. His brother began to change dramatically, but it wasn’t until a year afterward that their problematic relationship came to a head.

The location was the western frontier. Both of the brothers were assigned to protect the western border of Amestris. They served on the border patrol. Initially, both wanted to take the state certification exam for alchemists, but their father believed they would need some field experience before they were prepared for the exam. It was during their time in the West that Salus, at this point 18, met Sara Lyrus his future wife. They instantly fell in love. Sara worked as a military nurse in West City. Solomon became more and more jealous of his younger brother. Salus began to notice changes in Solomon’s behavior, but it wasn’t until one night on the border that it became apparent. Salus and Solomon were guarding the border late at night, when they noticed a group of refugees trying to cross the border. The group was two children and an elderly woman. Salus tried to confront them as he began to walk towards the group he heard three shots. He watched as the three figures fell dead, shot in the head. He turned around to see his brother holding a rifle and smiling. Salus went ballastic and a fight ensued between the brothers. The next day Salus was relocated to Central along with Sara who was now carrying their baby.

Upon arriving in Central Salus’mother fell deathly ill, and within a month of his arrival his beloved mother died from the illness. Salus, Sara, and his Father grieved, Solomon never returned for her funeral. Soon after his mother’s death Salus received word that Solomon had gone A.W.O.L from the military. Regardless this tragic event was soon followed by the birth of Salus and Sara’s daughter Sonya. Salus, now twenty by this time, began to study for his state alchemist exam. The day finally arrived he took the exam and passed earning him the rank of Major and the title “Deadshot” Alchemist. However, Salus soon experienced yet another loss in his life. His father was assassinated on a trip to the north. The military stated that he was targeted by a terrorist group that he had once arrested. Salus’ day after the exam was spent much like his return to Central, arranging another funeral. His life had been a combination of triumph and tragedy, but soon another tragedy would tip the scale.

Four months after he gained his rank of major and on his 21st birthday Salus’ world again came crashing down. He had suffered the deaths of his parents and the disappearance of his brother, but nothing prepared him for what he found on that day. Coming home after working all night at the office, the sky was filled with rain; Salus opened the door to his family’s apartment to see the bodies of his young wife and daughter lying on the floor. Each of them had been shot several times in the chest. That moment plays over and over in Salus’s mind even to this day. He continued in his military career, hoping that one day he would uncover who murdered his family.

The light was dimming outside the window as Salus stared through it again lost in his thoughts. He had a mountain of paperwork still on his desk, but it would have to wait. Salus produced a round clear glass from his large oaken desk’s lower right drawer. Along with the glass he pulled a bottle of light brown liquor, scotch. His hands trembled as he pulled the cork from the sturdy bottle. He poured about half the glass full, corked the bottle and set it back in his drawer. He lifted the glass to his lips and slowly drank. The liquor was hard, burning as it splashed in his mouth. Salus let out a sigh as he finished the drink. It had been one year since that tragic day in his life.
“Happy Birthday to me.” Salus said to himself as he again produced the same bottle refilling his glass.

He reached into his pocket producing the silver pocket watch that was a symbol of his certification. He clicked it open and stared on the left half. Inside his watch was the only picture he had of his family together with his father. He smiled as he drank his drink again. He slammed down the glass as he ran his fingers over the picture seeming as if he was trying to touch his family one last time. He closed his watch and leaned back in his chair propping his feet up on his desk. He stared out the window watching as the sun set in the background. He stayed lounged for a moment, until the sun was completely set. He stood up, pulling out his top left draw and producing twin silver plated pistols. He slammed his clip into each of them, pulled back the barrel, a hit the safety. He placed them in his twin holsters on his back and covered them with his military jacket.

“Time to hunt, for one more night.” He said as he pushed in his chair behind his desk. He walked to the door of his office and flipped the light switch. The room went dark as he whispered, “I will find them Sara..” He closed the door behind him. A passing solider saluted him as he walked passed. The night had come upon Salus, and he felt determined to solve his family’s murder.
